Four pages take students from facts to 20 up to two-digit sums with regrouping. Short tips show that 6 + 7 is one more than 6 + 6, a number line hops 57 + 6 to 60, and a tens-and-ones example works through 56 + 27 before 18 vertical problems, six of them with regrouping. Four short stories about muffins, pages, goals and beads follow. In the closing maze, the wrong boxes total 58, 59, 61 or 62, so students have to work each one out rather than guess.
On page 3, an answer like 713 for 56 + 27 means the student wrote 13 in the ones place. Have them keep the 3 ones and move the 1 ten to the tens column.
On page 2, an answer like 63 for 23 + 4 means the 4 was added to the tens. Have students rewrite the problem with ones under ones.
Ways to adjust the four student pages for different students.
Each one is checked against the official documents. Where the resource covers only part of a standard, the note says so.
Students solve 24 facts within 20 after a box that shows the doubles-plus-one and make-ten strategies. Subtraction within 20 is not covered.
Students add a one-digit number to a two-digit number by hopping to the next ten, and add two-digit numbers by adding tens and ones and regrouping 10 ones as a ten. Adding multiples of 10 and explaining the reasoning aloud are not asked for.
Students add two-digit numbers with and without regrouping, solve four addition stories and find sums of 60 in a maze. Subtraction is not covered.
Students complete 24 addition facts to 20 using tips like doubles and making ten; subtraction facts are not included.
Students add two-digit plus one-digit numbers, then two-digit numbers with and without regrouping, and follow a maze of sums equal to 60; subtraction and adding three or four numbers are not covered.
Students write a number sentence and solve four one-step addition stories; subtraction and multi-step stories are not included.
A set of four student pages, each on a different step from facts to 20 up to two-digit sums with regrouping, plus an answer key. The pages work on separate days.
