Learning objectives

- Point to the f at the start of each picture card word.
- Cut along dashed lines and glue each piece where the steps say.
Students color and cut out a big letter F, fish pieces and six f picture cards, then glue them together into a fish scene.
Only the color PDF is ready for this resource so far. The other formats are on the way.

Children color, cut and glue a page-sized block F, then add a fish along its top bar, built from a body with scales, a tail, two fins, an eye and three bubbles. Six picture cards, from fox to fries, go on or around the letter, and children say each word as they glue it, so the craft doubles as practice hearing the f sound at the start of words. The teacher page lists materials and seven words to stretch out, like f-f-fish. There is no answer key, since nothing is marked.
The big F has several inside corners. Children new to scissors can cut the rounder fish pieces and the cards while you cut the F.
Some children call fries chips, which doesn't start with f. Say "fries" as you hand out that card so the word matches the sound.
Read the sound strip from the teacher page while children glue: say f-f-fox together as the fox card goes down, stretching the f before the rest of the word.
Ways to adjust the Letter F craft for different learners.
Each one is checked against the official documents. Where the resource covers only part of a standard, the note says so.
While gluing each picture card, children stretch the f sound at the start of fish, fox, frog, feather, foot, flag and fries, and each card shows the word with its first letter f set apart. There is no writing, and other consonants are not covered.
Children stretch the first sound while saying fish, fox, frog, feather, foot, flag and fries as they glue each piece, hearing that the words all start the same way; there is no written answer to check.
Each picture card shows the word with its first letter f set apart, and the cards are glued around a big F, linking the letter to the f sound; this is a craft, so children do not sort or choose sounds on their own.
