Children add pairs of one-digit numbers, with a number line from 0 to 18 across the top of page 1 to start at the bigger number and hop forward. Picture problems and a row of doubles, such as 6 + 6 and 9 + 9, come first. Ten of the 15 facts on page 2 cross 10, like 9 + 4 and 8 + 6, which is where counting on gets slow and making ten helps. The key ends with one worked example of each strategy.
For 2 + 9, a student who counts on from 2 makes nine hops. Point to the number line direction: start at 9 instead and hop just twice.
For facts like 9 + 4, use the key's make-ten move: take 1 from the 4 to turn the 9 into a ten, so 9 + 4 is the same as 10 + 3.
Ways to adjust the picture problems and facts for different students.
Each one is checked against the official document. Where the resource covers only part of a standard, the note says so.
Students add pairs of one-digit numbers with sums up to 18, using pictures, counting on and doubles. Subtraction and two-digit numbers are not included.
Students practise addition facts to 20 (doubles such as 8 + 8 and facts such as 9 + 7) toward quick recall. Subtraction facts and related facts to 100 are not covered.
Students read and complete addition statements written across and in columns with + and =. Subtraction statements are not included.
Every problem here adds two single-digit numbers. The Maths Addition Worksheet starts with facts to 20 and moves on to two-digit sums with regrouping.
