Learning objectives
- Pick out the four n pictures among six petals.
- Find and count capital N and lowercase n in a picture, leaving out u and h.
- Write uppercase N starting at the top line and lowercase n starting at the middle line.
Students mark the n pictures on a sound flower, find five hidden N's and n's in a picture scene, and trace N and n.
Only the colour PDF is ready for this resource so far. The other formats are on the way.

Listening comes first on this n page: students check the petals of a Sound Flower whose pictures start with the n sound, such as nest and nose, and skip the snake and the cupcake. Then they hunt for two big N's and three little n's hidden in a hill scene with a moon and a house, ignoring a u on the roof and an h on the tree trunk, and write how many they found. Tracing N and n comes last, and the key describes both letters' strokes.
Name the petal pictures before students start: the 9 tile is "nine" and the net is a goal net, which some children will call a goal. Snake has an n sound inside it but starts with s, so stress the first sound.
If a child's count is 6 or 7, they have circled the h on the tree trunk or the u on the roof. Use the key's tip: little n and little h both have one hump, but h has a tall stick.
Ways to adjust the Letter N page for different learners.
Each one is checked against the official document. Where the resource covers only part of a standard, the note says so.
Students say six picture names and mark the ones that start with the n sound. Only the n sound at the start of a word is covered.
Students find hidden N and n in a picture, skipping look-alikes u and h, and count them. They spot the letters rather than say their names, and only N and n are covered.
Students trace dotted N and n from start dots and arrows, then write their own. Only N and n are traced.
